Tigard Foursquare Outreach Opportunity
Oregon has the nation’s highest rate of “child food insecurity.”  About 252,000 kids- or nearly 30 percent of the state’s youth- aren’t sure where their next meal is coming from…  (PARADE November 27, 2011)
The Backpack Program is designed to provide food to children who might not otherwise have enough to eat over the weekend.  Food is delivered to our local elementary schools and volunteers stuff the backpacks.  The backpacks are sent home full of food on Fridays and empty bags returned on Mondays.  The cost to provide food each month is $500 per school.  We rely on the support from individuals, businesses, Churches and other organizations.  The more food and funds we collect the more children we can help.
The following list details the weekly need of the children in our community.  Please consider size and weight.  These children are grades K-6 and large boxes do not fit in their backpack.  Please check the expiration dates on the foods.  If the food has expired or the expiration date is close we cannot deliver those items.  Cans with pull tops are preferred.

We are partnering with a couple of other churches and a preschool to help families in need at Templeton Elementary School.  Please bring items to Tigard Foursquare church.  Items will be donated weekly.  This will be an ongoing outreach to our community.  In the future we may have opportunity for volunteer hours of help as well.
Thank you for prayerfully considering joining in this effort to share the love of Christ by meeting some of the physical needs of children in our community.
